Flute and Percussion at Chatter Sunday
Flutist, Jesse Tatum, and Percussionist, Jeff Cornelius, present a concert of solo and duo works. The program will include Gareth Farr’s composition for flute and marimba, “Kembang Suling.” A native of New Zealand, Farr draws frequent inspiration from Eastern music, and in this three movement suite we hear the influence of musical traditions from Bali, Japan, and southern India. The program will also include Ingolf Dahl’s “Duettino Concertante” for flute and percussion, Paul Hindemith’s “Acht Stucke” (Eight Studies) for solo flute, and Gordon Stout’s “Two Mexican Dances for Marimba.”
This week’s poet is Marilyn Stablein. Her book, “Splitting Hard Ground:Poems” won the New Mexico Book Award and the National Federation of Press Women’s Book Award. Other books include the memoirs “Sleeping in Caves” and “Climate of Extremes: Landscape and Imagination.” She and her husband own Acequia Booksellers, 4019 4th St, a used bookstore in the North Valley & online at acequiabooksellers.com.
